Ohio Horses Need Homes By Saturday -- Emergency!

Just got this info from a friend of mine; perhaps you can help:

52 thoroughbred horses need homes. Will go to Sugarcreek this Saturday for slaughter. Gentleman died and his son wants nothing to do with them. Most broodmares are broke and some are in foal weanling, yearlings, 2 yrs and 3 yrs old most are gelded. FREE and papered. Friend of the deceased is trying to find homes 440-463-4288 or 440-463-4288 Barnesville, OH.  Please help!!

  1. TWICE in One day... Hip Hip HooooRay.
Furst... I have asked my furend Bunny and her sisters to come over and meet you. They are all rescued greyhounds. They have a wonderful blog and I think you would enjoy each other.

I KNOW about Sugarcreek!!! It is about 40 mins. north of here... almost everything there is run by the Amish. Sounds good... UNTIL you really know what goes on. The Amish have gotten into both Horse and Dog breeding in the last 10 to 15 years. They sell the... USED UP dogs at the Auction Barn in Sugarcreek... THEY don't Personally Run the Auction... it is handled by... Hired Help. But guess who Hires them?? The Amish!!!
Barnsville is South of I-70 and West of Cambridge. That is a LONG way from Sugarcreek. BUT... FEAR Not... the Amish... Hire Others to go Long distances to "Pick Up" Auction "ITEMS". Do I seem Bitter to you? If not.. I need to Kick it up a notch.
3 miles from my house is a horse that was.. Purchased in Sugarcreek.. he was purchased because.. our friend overheard two Amishmen talking about the horse.. They said they just hoped that no one bought him... because they were 300 pounds short of Meat. They sell the horsemeat for ... you guessed it.. Feed for other animals!!! At least ONE horse was saved.
We met a couple from Near here who saw Frankie and wanted to Talk. They went to "Amish Country" for a nice Drive. Saw a sign in an Amish Yard... Free Dachshunds...
their little Sadie was near death.. according to Dr. Masterson... our Vet. She was only 3 and had almost no teeth left. They had fallen out from... malnutrition and constant pregnancy and nursing.
There... See... I surely hope and PRAY that SOMEONE can take these horses... BEFORE they make it to Sugarcreek.
THANK YOU for putting this up for people to see!!! the situation in Sugarcreek is a Terrible embarrassment to those of us in Ohio who LOVE animals.
Two posts in one day... I hope that means that you are going to be back much more often.
I also hope that Bunny and Lilac and Blueberry stop by!!!

  2. Yikes, Frankie! I had NO idea about that Sugarcreek place (and such a nice name). I do hope someone can save these horses.

I'd love to see tight restrictions on dog-breeding. The Amish, IMHO, are not above reproach, as many seem to believe. Poor Sadie, I'm glad she was saved.

I do check in on Bunny and Lilac and Blueberry, but it's been a long time. Will have to check them out again, soon.

  3. Our friend Frankie sent us over! It's always nice to see other Greyhounds blogging!

That is very sad news about those horses!

  4. I am trying to contact this person regarding these horses!! The voicemail is FULL!!! I can't leave a message!!!

  5. Hey & Welcome, Houndstooth! It's always wonderful to greet other greys!

@mstai68mcneal: arrggghhh! Hopefully they are getting the help they need! Please try again, and thank you!

  6. Oh my god I am in tears right now over these poor horses!!! How could anyone threaten to do this to them? I have been a horse lover all of my life. and to give the public only a few days to save them? horrible. I wish i could take them all but it is impossible for me to do so. cant the humane societys or the aspca do something to help these poor horses?
