I'm feeling a little sick and near tears. We've just found a dead black squirrel, hit by a car, at the corner (about three houses down). My husband (he's a good guy) and I walked to the squirrel and shoveled him up, and just buried him in the back near the peony and the veggie garden.

Of course, there are lots of squirrels around here - and they're all either black or grey, so it could be that it's not our pal Squirrel. (It is still sad, regardless.) We keep running outside "clicking" for Squirrel and seeing a few others. But, it's late and Squirrel could have gone home by now.

I will look out for Squirrel tomorrow.

  1. My heart goes out to you. Been there with a few local favorites myself, including "Scoiattolo" (Italian for squirrel) and "Hazel," more than a decade ago. Please post on whether your friend squirrel returns to you. It's possible the timing was just bad and you missed one another.

  2. I'm sorry if you have lost your black squirrel. I hope he returns. You were very kind to the other unfortunate guy.

  3. I hope it is not your little pal. Hmmm, can't someone tell them to stay in the trees - poor things.
