Today's Reuters reports the largest bust ever in the U.S. of a cockfighting ring, in a San Diego, California, neighborhood. Fifty people were arrested and over 5,000 (five-thousand) birds seized and later euthanized; another 50 suspects are being sought.
Cockfighting is the outfitting of roosters with spurs and/or razors attached to their legs, thrown into the ring to fight each other for gambling purposes. Fights are to the death.
