Here's a sad follow up to an August post about a Chandler, AZ, cop that left his canine partner in his car; the dog died in (outside) temps of 109 that day. The police officer has been charged with animal cruelty in the death of his partner "Bandit".
Sgt. Lovejoy (ironic, isn't it?) is scheduled to appear in court later this month. Given the close relationship officers must have with their partners, I can only imagine that Sgt. Lovejoy is devastated by the loss of his canine partner due to his own negligence. While I have difficulty understanding how one can forget a dog (or a person) in a car, I do understand that it can happen and only hope that I never do the same. What's most difficult about this particular case, however, is that the dog was left in his car, at home I believe, for over 12 hours. sigh.
Difficult and sad for all concerned, all the way around.
