Vick Says Not Guilty; Friends Take The Bullet.

Vick's Co-Defendant Pals Take the Bullet.

News reports this morning that Mike Vick will not plead guilty either to killing dogs or gambling, saying that he will plead guilty to interstate commerce for the purpose of dogfighting.

So Vick was just the driver? Right.

According to articles quoting a source, Vick would have us believe then that all witnesses that implicated him instead are perjuring themselves, saying that he was present at the dogfights but that he neither killed dogs nor gambled. He just stood there? Right. Right: his friends that "watch his back" do his dirty work and take the bullet for him.

"It's good to be King."

Well, this would certainly make life easier for Vick. He could "clear (his) good name." He would be eligible to continue his football career with a slap on the wrist by the NFL; keep his $130 million contract and $37 million signing bonus. His sponsors could resume endorsement business. And he'd serve almost no time in jail, if any.

The good news?
U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson is not bound by that recommendation or by federal sentencing guidelines, and need not accept the terms of Vick's plea.
